Steel Bridge Team 2018
We are the American Society of Civil Engineers at Morgan State University (MSU). Our Steel Bridge Team consists of undergraduate, engineering students, who are excited to participate in the 2018 National Student Steel Bridge Competition, sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Steel Construction.
What is the National Student Steel Bridge Competition?
The National Student Steel Bridge Competition, is an opportunity for students to gain hands on engineering experience and apply concepts learned in the classroom to the design and fabrication of a scaled steel bridge. The competition is sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). Morgan State University's Steel Bridge Team is preparing to compete at the Mid-Atlantic ASCE Student Conference at the University of Delaware on April 7th and 8th; winners of the conference competitions are then invited to compete at the national level at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champain on May 25th and 26th, 2018.
Why do We Participate?
Participation in the Steel Bridge Competition challenges students to think and act like a real professional engineer. We must meet deadlines, create a product to client specifications, operate within a limited budget and face many of the other challenges engineers face in real life. Previous participants of the Steel Bridge Competition at MSU have gone on to be named in ASCE’s New Faces of Civil Engineering, have entered graduate school, or they joined the workforce at nearby engineering companies; they have mentioned that their participation on Morgan’s Steel Bridge Team was vital to their success.
